What are the Yoga Sutras? Instructions for bearded rishis who lived in the forests of ancient India? Or the complete manual of asanas?
Neither! In fact, the text may well have been called ‘Maharishi P’s Ultimate Handbook of Mind Control’, for it is really a set of techniques to help us – all of us – awaken and harness the explosive power of our minds, through our actions, our attitudes and our awareness.
And not through asanas? That too, but not in the way you imagined it.
In this surprising, sparkling book, Roopa Pai unravels the secrets of Patanjali’s compact 2,000-year-old text in ways both fun and accessible. Walk down the well-marked paths into a dazzling world where a whole new version of yourself – self-assured, fearless and free – awaits you.
Go on, then – what are you waiting for?

Highly recommend this book for children and adults alike
Yoga Sutras for Children beautifully distills the secrets and practices of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras into a treasure trove of accessible practices for children and adults alike. The captivating narrative and playful examples break down complex concepts into bite-sized pieces, making them relatable and engaging. While geared towards young minds, its timeless wisdom charmed me as a 52-year-old. The accessible explanations and lovely illustrations (vritti train) have left me with a deeper understanding and practical tools to integrate this wisdom into my daily life.

Respected Roopa Pai mam,It gives me immense pleasure to write to you, my views on Yoga Sutra written by you!I read the book in 2 days as it was gripping and was able to get me to my own depths! The salient features i would like to mention are:- To begin with Pronounciation guide! What an idea, to allow to reader to stick to the correct words!- The Bulb, Light and Screen analogy! I loved it! It’s so simplified!!!- ‘Mahrishi P’: It is really a genius way to keep readers engaged in conversation with The Great Sage and not making it look like preaching by you!- Vritti Train and Chitta Lake! That has simplified my own concepts we well, while I’m trying to be aware of my thoughts!- ‘Do it!’ Boxes: what a way to give exercise to make it feel what’s already written; honestly it was just like ‘Upnishad way’ to make the readers work on the principles mentioned! Just like ‘Do it yourself’ and then accept!- 3 Gunas of Prakriti, they’re so easily described!- A-U-M and life cycle: i myself have been meditating on Aum for last few months regularly, and a big thank you for connecting it with life cycle so well!- Last but not the least, The Ready Reckoner!A big thank you for all the efforts of inculcating our age old, proven principles and Scriptures into children and I’m sure, this will have a great impact on creating more beautiful a society!

We received Yoga Sutras from a Facebook reading community (Kids Book Cafe). The author emphasises that YS is neither a religious text nor does it claim spiritual superiority over other scriptures.Interspersed with beautiful illustrations by Sayan Mukherjee, Roopa Pai skilfully weaves anecdotes and humour in between Sanskrit couplets to deliver a thought-provoking handbook which is both appealing and linguistically-relatable to Gen Z. Personally, the most striking aspect of the book is how the author dusts off the cobwebs from an ancient hallowed text (perhaps viewed as outdated by a few) and beautifully presents it to the social media-savvy young ‘uns. Maharishi Patanjali is an omnipresent guiding voice throughout Roopa Pai’s eloquent and enlightening commentary.’Yoga Sutras for Children’ is a fantastic guide for children and adults alike. As you peruse the pages, the words will ignite a spark in your mind, activate those chakras and help you channelise cosmic energy so that we may grow and lead more fulfilled lives.Age: 13 years onwards

I have been interested in the Yoga Sutras for many years now and have read a few versions of the Sutras earlier, but this one just explained it to me in a language that I understand!! So many concepts suddenly became so clear!!! The genius of Patanjali, which had eluded me, is now coming through. Everything has been deconstructed so well and has been made so relatable, that suddenly it seems that life’s experiences have been preparing me to read and live the Yoga Sutras. The only qualm I have with the book is the cover saying it is for Children …… it applies to every Adult too!!! Thank you so much Ms. Pai for writing this book. You truly have a gift, and have been sent to complete some important missions on Earth 🙂

I have hardly come across this kind of sincere effort to make our heritage relevant & comprehensive for the young ones. These gems of our ancient texts are very relevant but never before they were made so accessible & contextual in a way teenagers can understand. It gives answers to so many dilemmas faced at that tender age.Must buy for parents of teens as one of the best gift you can buy for them.

Simply brilliant! Uniquely and beautifully âRoopa Paiâ style of writing. Easy flowing, simple and humorous. Each chapter is unto itself. A perfect bedside book that one can keep picking up and reading, by flipping through the pages and letting oneâs eyes rest on words that catches oneâs attention at that time. Love that one can read the book from the beginning, chapter by chapter or from the back or from the middle and it all makes sense. Very creatively and smartly written. Love it!! â¤ï¸â¤ï¸
