‘The Language of Yin’ is more than a book on themes. It is a comprehensive guide to becoming the type of teacher that inspires and moves people beyond the skin and bones.

Starting with some proven techniques for teaching, the book moves into setting the beginning scenes to connect students to their practice. The book then presents over 40 universal themes that will provide inspiration for both you and your students.

Long after the poses have faded, the students will remember how you made them feel using the descriptive and connected language provided.

Each class has three categories; mind, heart and body. These categories define, embellish and connect the poses to the heart and soul, making the themes relatable and exciting.

Perfect, sweet book to inspire your Yin practice
My 200 hr teacher training was in Vinyasa, and I’ve been looking for a book to re-inspire my home Yin practice. This book was an absolute delight, with fresh, creative Yin sequences and beautiful themes! I LOVED the sequences for seasons/traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and chakras – they felt imaginative and fun, different than cookie-cutter Yin routines. I also enjoyed the side body stretches, which feel like such a relief since we do so much movement forwards/backwards. Lastly, the sequences are easy to follow with cute little illustrations — which are great so you don’t have to read text as you are actually trying to do the sequence in real time. In love with this gem of a book <3

    Beautiful, authentic, nurturing…
This is such a beautifully written book with sequences, themes, readings, poems and quotes. It is full of positive energy and useful for practitioners as well as teachers of Yin Yoga. Laid out by themes, this book focuses on building a supportive theme from poses as well as breathing techniques (and mudras). A treasure trove of information accessibly laid out. Highly recommend this for anyone interested in exploring Yin Yoga and all the sweetness it has to offer. Perfect!

    can freshen up your approach
I’ve been teaching yoga for about 20 years, and Yin for about 13. I’m also a 200 and 300 YTT instructor with my own yoga school. I’m a Bernie Clark fan and have never bothered to look further. I bought this book on a whim and I’m enjoying it very much. I will still use Bernie’s book for trainings, but I’ll definitely fold this in with an eye toward theming a class. I also love the meditations she includes and various other tidbits. For example, for svadhyaya, she recommended reading a Rumi poem, which I had on my shelf (the poem was not included in the book), read to my class, and it was a lovely integration.

    Beautifully written
I loved reading this book. She provided so much attention to detail and provided a lot of examples of different themes. I felt like the book was a love language for yin and I loved every minute of it.

    Great resource!
This book has been very useful in planning out my classes. There are some errors in it – especially translations of Sanskrit terms. So just be aware and do your own research – don’t take the authors word for it!I’ve combined the Asanas with different sections of the book. I’ve found some sections to go along with other sections of the book better. I’ve found myself becoming more creative and thinking more outside the box since reading this book. If your creative juices have run dry – thus book may be the spark you’re looking for. Sure was for me!

    Eloquent and Inspiring
If I were to write a book about teaching Yin Yoga, this is how I would do it! I love everything about it. Beautifully presented and written; Gabrielle’s voice is lovely, the content is robust, and her passion for the practice is undeniable. More important is her selfless sharing of what she’s learned over the years and how she’s applied it to her own teaching. There are really just a few go-to Yin Yoga books that I regularly use, and they are great, but this one is art.

    Inspiration for Yin Teachers
Gabrielle’s book is an utter pleasure. I love highlighting passages in books I admire – and the highlighter will surely run out before I make it to the end of this treasure. This is like soul food to Yin teachers – she has included sequences, but more importantly she is inspiring you to take a theme and create your own magical classes. Her words are like the soothing music and her influence in my teaching will be felt for years to come. This should be required reading… Thank you for sharing this wisdom with us…

This book has completely changed my yin practice and allowed me to go deeper into meaning with my students. I’m very new to teaching yin and I love the meditative aspect of it. I love the theme and sequences which inspire me in all different yoga forms. This is a must have for anyone wanting to go beyond 2d asana yoga teaching and offer more layers to their teaching practice
