This second edition of the best selling The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga provides an in-depth look at the philosophy and practice of Yin Yoga with illustrated sections on how to practice Yin Yoga, including detailed descriptions and photographs of over 30 Yin Yoga asanas. This is an updated version of the book that has become the go-to resource for Yin Yoga teachers all over the world and has been required reading in many teacher training programs.

All forms of yoga can provide benefits physically, emotionally, and mentally, however Yin Yoga works the deeper levels of the body/heart/mind: the yin tissues of fascia, tendons, ligaments, joints and bones, as well as the energetic channels of the meridians, nerves and blood system. One big difference noticed by students of Yin Yoga is the long-held, passive nature of the posture, which gives time for a deeper journey to unfold, a journey into the meditative aspects of yoga, a bridge to living life mindfully.

The second edition includes―a more functional approach to the practice of yoga, emphasizing the concept of targeted areas; the importance of stress in reducing fragility and building antifragility; understanding the nature of creep and the importance of counterposes, with a revised list of effective counterpostures; many new photographs of the postures and their variations for different body types; a more current overview of the physiology of tissues and the energy body reflecting new understanding in the science of fascia and cellular signaling; and many other enhancements.

As in the first edition, the book presents comprehensive information on how to do the practice, including how to get into and out of the pose, contraindications and warnings for those who may have trouble with particular aspects of the posture, and other important information. Why we do the practice is discussed by looking at its benefits in three main sections: the physiological, energetic and mental/emotional benefits.

    Fantastic book
I had to purchase this book for a Yin yoga workshop I took, and I have to say, the book does a good job of explaining the poses, how to get in and out of the poses, the pictures are very helpful. The information is great, however, I was following along with the instructor. Chapter 1 & 2 were a great introduction along with Chapters 7 & 8.I will be using this book when I prep for my classes. It’s a very well written book, and I would recommend it.

Great beginners book to yin yoga
I have enjoyed learning about yin yoga with this book. Has a lot of good information about yin yoga. Nice visuals of the poses, great descriptions and good information for modifications. Nice intro info about meridians and which ones apply to each yin yoga pose. I would recommend if your are wanting an overview of yin.

This gem of a book just got so much better!
The best book on Yin Yoga in my opinion. The newly revised second edition is incredible. So much more content and many more ohotos! The photos include models of different body sizes as well as a pregnant model. Additionally there are photos of many variations of each pose. The layout of text in this edition is clean and easy to read. It’s a wonderful revision. I teach multiple yin classes weekly and this is my go to reference book. This second edition is much more helpful (in my opinion) when compared to the first. If wondering should you make a choice between the first edition and second edition….absolutely choose the second.

    Gold Standard!!!!! EXCELLENT BOOK!!
I honestly cannot give this book enough stars. This guide to Yin Yoga is the gold standard of a practice guide. It is written succinctly and gives good examples and background. The postures are complete, excellent pictures, and shows in a very user-friendly format modifications, contraindications, and counter poses. NO LIE… I TOOK A 200 hr YTT and am currently in a 300 hour YTT, and this book is by far the source of the most I’ve learned! THIS BOOK WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY LIBRARY AND WILL BE MY GO-TO. Great job on this book! I can not recommend it enough to those who want a straight forward yin philosophy and practice guide.

    “The” Yin Yoga book!
I just got the new version of The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga. I didn’t think I could learn any more from Bernie Clark; there is so much valuable information in the first edition. As a Yin Yoga teacher, I appreciate the fact that the new edition features more modifications for each posture, and includes models of different shapes and sizes. I’m now able to offer my students more accessible options to help them find their version of the pose. I’ve read many books about Yin Yoga, and this is, by far, the most complete. I can’t recommend this book enough.

    Excellent resource
As a yoga instructor and a student of Yin Yoga, I found this book a valuable resource. Each page contains nuggets of information, explanations of the poses as well as the physicality and benefits of the practice. While being educational it is not overwhelming and very easy to read and understand. I have already incorporated many of the teachings in this book into my students journey to yin. The classes have been well received! This guide to Yin Yoga is a must have for not just teachers but anyone interested in enhancing their knowledge and personal practice.

    Well balanced
Good overview, history, philosophy etc of Yin but not too much. Well-organized description of overall structure of a yin session, but not too much. Great description and illustration of each pose with variations, Getting into & out of the pose and targeted body areas. includes a very useable and practical guide to setting up an sequence of poses to establish na session for a variety of goals / purposes. Very useful and practical book actually got me DOING yin poses in sequence within a few days.

    Crucial in Teacher Training
Just finished my 200 hour teacher certification and wanted to take that next step. Heard amazing things about this book in getting more versatile in yin yoga and this book did not disappoint. It is the perfect balance between detailed and descriptive with the nitty gritty but easy to read and understand and relate. Will be recommending this to all my fellow yogis!

Comecei a ler e me apaixonei!

My previous copy of Bernie Clark’s Complete Guide to Yin Yoga was extremely well-used. So I was pleased to get this updated version of a book I continue to re-read. Unusual in yoga books, the author is presents information clearly, practically and what feels like an unbiased perspective (as one can possibly be as an author). Complicated concepts especially on fascia and meridians are well laid out and I use this book as a reference guide in my yin yoga trainings. More of the newly integrated and evolving concepts in yin yoga are presented here and I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a well-rounded understanding of yin yoga. This author’s books have positively influenced my yoga teaching and I think it’s an essential for any yoga teacher.
