Product Description
Suga manufactures premium quality yoga mats in the USA from 100% recycled wetsuits.
ABOUT SUGA
Suga was born out of necessity by a lifelong surfer and yoga practitioner who was seeking a solution to an enduring problem. While surfers enjoy a unique bond with the natural environment, we struggle to reduce our environmental footprint. Nondegradable neoprene wetsuits present a unique challenge.
Suga worked extensively with engineering experts to recycle these petrochemical based landfill clogging neoprene monsters into highly functional instruments of yogic bliss.
Introducing the worlds first 100% recycled yoga mat.
SugaMats are made entirely out of recycled surfing wetsuits. They’re also closed-loop – fully recyclable by Suga at the end of their useful lives. Other brands claim to be ‘eco’ or ‘recyclable’ but are anything but.
SugaMats are built to specific tolerances of density, elasticity, and durability, to be grippier than other mats.
SugaMats are manufactured in the USA to the highest environmental and labor standards, unlike our competitors.
100% RECYCLED 5MM YOGA MAT MADE IN THE USA GRIPPIER THAN CONVENTIONAL MATS CLOSED CELL FOAM SIZE 72″ x 25″, WEIGHT 5lbs, THICKNESS 5MM
SUSTAINABLE + ECO
SugaMats are made entirely out of recycled surfing wetsuits. They are not only made from recycled materials, but also closed loop – fully recyclable at the end of their useful lives.
Suga is also a proud member of 1% for the Planet, giving 1% of gross revenues to environmental non-profits.
GRIPPIER + TRACTION
SugaMats have better traction.
Due to their unique composition, SugaMats perform better than any mat on the market. We built the SugaMat to specific tolerances of density, tackiness, elasticity, durability, and liquid permeability and retention and are confident that you’ll dig every asana on your SugaMat.
DENSER + MORE CUSHIONING
A denser mat provides crucial cushioning for those high-compression asanas (like side crow/parshva bakasana or hands-free lotus headstand/mukta hasta shirshasana).
CLOSED CELL + ANTIMICROBIAL
Unlike almost all other yoga mats, SugaMats are composed of closed-cell foam, so they don’t sponge up dirt, dust & bacteria from yoga studio floors. This also makes them easy to clean.
SugaMats are non-toxic, being PCV, PCB, PET, and phthalate-free.
Suga has created a product using recycled materials that can and will be recycled at the end of its useful life. We have implemented two programs for our products, both of which allow our customers to return our used mats to us for recycling. We are also a proud member of 1% for the Planet.
Suga is grounded in a culture of environmental stewardship. We seek to set an example of corporate sustainability and social responsibility. We engender these values by reducing the impact of neoprene wetsuits on our natural environment, creating a long-lasting product, and maintaining responsibility for the lifecycle of our products.
If corporations are afforded personhood by law, we believe they should be held to the same ethical standards as humans. To that end, corporations should take responsibility for their products from cradle to grave.

Life changing for the sweaty practitioner
Having purchased several yoga mats in the past which were supposed to be great for people who sweat during practice (including both Liforme and B-Mat), I was almost resigned to the fact that I would need to use a mysore rug on top of my mats forever. See, I am incredibly sweaty! Liquid actually pours off me during my ashtanga mysore practice, and none of the “sticky” or “grippy” mats were any match for the pure Welsh sweat falling from my pores. Then I spotted the Suga Mat, and took a chance as just the photos indicated to me that it had a texture which might work for me, plus it’s great to know that it is made from recycled wetsuits. Well, after 10 days of morning mysore and a counted full primary, and at the hottest time of the year so far here, I can safely say that this mat is a revelation. The mat’s texture allows for a stable, unmoving surface under foot and hands, without being sticky, so it is easy to move through the first season sequence without any hindrance. Furthermore, it dries very quickly. It’s also lighter than I expected, and rolls out perfectly flat every time. All my fellow classmates in the shala haven’t been able to resist giving the mat a rub to feel the texture, and everyone is impressed, but none more than I, as it has made my practice even more enjoyable than I thought possible. I had to pay quite a lot in shipping to get this sent over to Ireland from the US, but I can 100% say that it was worth it.

Great quality, good cushion, and no slip material!
I’m new to yoga but found most mats to be slippery and lacking cushion for my knees. This mat has great traction for classes where you break a sweat and need to hold a pose without slipping.Because the material is more dense than the usual spongy material found in most mats, I haven’t needed a blanket to add extra cushion for my knees. At first I was concerned about what I might be getting the price, but I think it’s so worth it now that I’ve experienced the high quality first-hand during multiple classes (ranging from moderate to fast-paced classes that make you sweat).I’ve owned this mat for almost a week and have gotten compliments from folks in class to instructors. I also really dig the look of the mat and the rounded corners.10/10 would recommend and I’m really glad I found this mat in a market full of mediocre products.

But this Mat!!
I love this product. I bought it because its sustainable and environmentally conscious. I love it though because its a frickin awesome yoga/workout mat! It’s comfortable to use, provides plenty of support, relatively inexpensive for such a good manufacture, it’s anti-microbial, long lasting, and can be returned for reuse! What’s not to love.Suga – you should make messenger bags from this material too – for real!

It started disintegrating the day I got it.
I sought this product out because it was made from the recycled suits. Whenever I roll out the mat or step on it when working out, it sheds these little black flecks ALL OVER MY HOUSE. I have to vacuum after every single workout. If it wasnât so expensive I would buy something else but Iâm punishing myself everyday by using it.

Nice and Thick, good grip
I bought this for my dogs, to help them not slip on the floors and to absorb all the water from their water bowl. The smell was quite strong when it was first unwrapped, but it’s really durable, absorbs the water really well, and has good texture and is a nice thickness.

Uneven surface of the mat can be rough on elbows and chin
I was looking for a replacement for my LuluLemon 5mm mat and I really wanted to go for something more eco friendly and sustainable. I found this mat and was very intrigued by it. After reading the reviews and the story behind it, I decide to give it a try. I have to say that it feels very good when you stand on it. Feels earthy if I can say that. The mat is very light and sturdy. It has no unpleasant smell and I love that I can just rinse it in the shower. The negatives… unfortunately being lightweight it moves around on the floor. Another drawback is that it does not give as much grip as my lululemon so my hands slide a bit in down dog and a few other poses. I do not like to use a towel so for me it is a drawback. Also the lexture of the mat is not smooth so it feels a little rough on the elbows and chin, beware of that if you have sensitive skin. Also it might feel a little too thin for some people.Overall I would say I am more happy with it than I am not. Lately I have been alternating between the mats. It is worth trying if you are looking for a mat that is environmentally friendly.

It loses its stability over time!
At first I loved this mat, but over a short amount of time using it between 3 to 5 times a week for hot yoga classes it lost itâs effectiveness. The mat stretches and becomes slippery.

Love this for hot yoga!
I love this mat for hot yoga – no need for bringing a towel to cover your mat! This is thicker and slightly heavier than other mats I’ve used but I LOVE how it feels. I feel extra grounded when using this mat. It looks super cool too and I enjoy seeing the small bits of really colorful wetsuits.I saw the comment about crumbles, cleaned it with a microfiber cloth before using it and didn’t have any issues. I did find it has a slight scent but it seems to being airing out and the smell is going away.Super happy with this purchase and will recommend the brand to others!
