Restorative Yoga Therapy: The Yapana Way to Self-Care and Well-Being

Restorative Yoga Therapy: The Yapana Way to Self-Care and Well-Being

$7.91

“Yapana” is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning, “the support and extension of life.” Author Leeann Carey was inspired by this concept to create her unique, inclusive approach to yoga. Here, all body types, phases of life, and levels of fitness and ability are welcomed. Carey meets readers where they are with strategic support. Yoga fundamentals — posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama) — are augmented by props that allow practitioners to hold and deepen poses. The props she suggests are not exotic (and include chairs, pillows, and walls). The beloved and recently deceased B.K.S. Iyengar worked with these types of supports. Drawing on this lineage, Carey uses props not to water down poses but to fulfill yoga’s most fundamental goal of offering a path to living a more mindful and wholehearted life. In this kind of practice there is no competition with the self or with others. Instead the practice facilitates awareness, acceptance of what is, and joyful movement toward what is possible.

Excellent Book on Restorative Yoga Poses
This book was recommended to me by a friend and I’m very glad I purchased it. Easy to read and excellent pictures show the exact, correct way to do the restorative postures.

    Recommend this Book
This book surpassed my expectations. It has become a wonderful resource for restorative yoga, both as a teacher and in my personal practice. I enjoy Carey’s clear, concise writings and appreciate her thoughtful use of language as she describes yoga therapy, and its focuses and benefits.

Ok but I like Judith Lasaters Relax and Renew much better.

A must have book for yogis and yoginis interested in deepening their practice!
Leeann presents a very useable guide to restorative yoga, that teachers and students alike can pick up and use. This guide is set up so practically; I highly recommend the Kindle version – it allows you to jump to the page where the pose is described in detail when you are exploring one of the excellent sequences offered. The sequences she offers are my go-to for my home practice and I use them in my own classes as well.If you want to learn yoga from someone who uses accessible language and has over 30 years of working with people of all shapes, sizes, and needs, she is the first person I’d recommend.

  8. Lisa Hepner

Nice book on restorative yoga but NOT yoga therapy
Intervention by a skilled and learned yoga therapist using yogic techniques, NOT just Asana, is yoga therapy. This is a nice book for learning restorative poses in general but if you’re seeking yoga therapy please find a yoga therapist so they can give you a thorough assessment and tailor yogic techniques to fit your individual constitution.
