911 for parents who don’t know where else to turn
Let me start off by saying I am an avid user of essential oils . . . for everything. I mean, I’m a full-on member of the Cult of Aromatherapy. For those of you who have yet to be indoctrinated, aromatherapy doesn’t just mean “something that smells nice and makes you feel good for that reason,” no matter what the dictionary definition would have you believe. Dig a little further into holistic health terminology and you get explanations like this: ” . . . art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.” (source:[…].)The efficacy of using essential oils for skin- or other ailments, mental and emotional issues, etc. has some convincing double-blind, scientific, peer-reviewed backing. That’s one of the reasons why I was interested in trying this blend for my third-grader, a spirited girl who would often spin out into an angry or tearful mindset at the end of a long school day. This tendency was affecting our home life, setting a tense tone in the house and testing the entire family. We were trying to love her through it, but we (her siblings as well as her dad and me) were challenged most days of the week to the absolute limits of our patience. It only made sense to explore this option, as essential oils are already employed so regularly in our home: for skincare, household clean-up, wound care, tooth pain, and in lieu of artificial home fragrances. I did some research, and Plant Therapy has a great reputation for the integrity of their oils. Through gas chromatography testing, it’s shown time and again that what they *put* in their bottles is actually what it says on the label. I felt good about purchasing from them. There aren’t many downsides to this, but I’ll break it up into pros and cons for those who find my review excessively wordy!PROS: smells great (lavender dominates, with notes of orange and apple–the scent of chamomile,) natural and non-medication route towards approaching minor- to moderate behavioral struggles with your child, inexpensive for the amount of uses, highly versatile in regards to how to utilize (mix into unscented balm or lotion, add to bath, shake on hairbrush, apply “neat” to skin, add drops to aromatherapy ionizer, etc.,) low chance of allergic or other negative reaction to these innocuous ingredients–this leads to high degree of compliance.CONS: drips out rather quickly, which leads to my second “complaint,” which is that it isn’t easily employed by the child herself. If I gave my child the power to use this when she feels her negative moods starting to overtake her, she’d plow through the bottle in a matter of days. SO, while less-than-ideal perhaps, it must involve adult supervision. My daughter was happy to see that I’d gone out of my way to get her a product to help her manage her emotions. She put her wee wrists out for me to dab it on, and then rubbed her wrists on her neck. I applied a few drops to my hands, rubbed them together, and lightly pressed them to her cheeks and through her hair. Whether it was the placebo effect (I don’t think so) who could say . . . but that time and on several occasions since, it has calmed her and reduced her antagonizing outbursts by, oh, eighty-five percent? That’s it. It shipped quickly and was securely wrapped in bubbles. The lid had those tabs so one could tell if it had been opened. Plant Therapy does, however, tend to over-box. I wish they wouldn’t, but I’ll take the responsibility of recycling the cardboard in exchange for access to their lovely range of therapeutic essential and carrier oils.

Works with ASD kid
My son has ASD and never seems to sleep. If you have a child on the spectrum you know these kids just don’t seem to ever sleep. We use melatonin supplements and that helps somewhat but I had heard about essential oils and was willing to give it a shot if it helped end the 3 AM wake up calls and battles to go to sleep at night. I mix this with coconut oil as a base and rub it on my son’s feet. The scent is pleasant, although I guess that is subjective. My son seems to like it. I think this helps him calm down at night. We haven’t used it very long and because it is a change to his bed time routine and he doesn’t handle change well we don’t get it on him every night. Of the nights we have used it he only woke up one night. For him, that is pretty great.I tried this product because it had good reviews and because it was cheaper than some other essential oils. This was my first time using essential oils so I can’t speak as to the quality of this product as compared to other companies, but we are pleased with this product. It isn’t a miracle substance for our son but it does seem to help him calm down at night.

Hehehe works SO well!
I bought this for my kids to put on their grandkids but forget it, they can buy their own. i love this stuff. My husband takes a psychotropic to control anxiety and depression (hard childhood, poor thing). It works mostly fine. But when he forgets to take it, the first symptom is he gets silly and loopy and inappropriatly loud. All he has to do to fix it is take his prescribed meds, but it takes maybe 5 hours for him to get normal. I used calm the child on him (he loves the oils I use cause he gets his feet rubbed!) and it worked like a charm! I also used it on my little dog. She LOVES to hunt. Shes great for keeping the mouse population down, but the other day, i had her at a small place I was staying while I was working out of town. She must have heard, or imagined she heard a critter under the cabin and started digging the wood floors and chewiing the cabinet (which I didnt let her do once I saw it). This went on and on. It was time to go to bed and she was just shaking she wanted that mousie so bad. I diluted 1drop of calm the child in carrier oil and put it on her paw. Within seconds she was fine! 10 minutes later tho she started panting. Its possible even the small amount I gave her was too much. It resolved and shes okay. The next time, i gave her just a tiny tiny amount and it still worked, but no panting. Shes 10#.

Loving this!!
I am jammin on this Kid Calm blend!! Omg it smells really good! My big guy (heâs 3 lol) doesnât mind it at all. I put it in a roller ball with almond oil and he likes to put it on himself. We put it on at night but heâs 3 so Iâm not sure how calm he can get from essential oils. It definitely puts out the chill vibes though. I can still smell it on him in the morning. He smells like this cute hippy kid I went to HS with. Nostalgicâð¼â¤ï¸

Nothing to write home about…
I got this for my child and myself. Who doesnât wanna chill and relax? This is why we use essential oils, or why I do anyway. I use it in the diffuser and I made two roller balls with almond oil to use on the go or for really stressful days. I donât see or notice a big impact on âcalming the childâ or in my case âcalming my child.â My usual Vetiver and Lemon are more effective than this blend. I really wanted to LOVE this, but itâs nothing special. I will use it up, but I wonât order again.

I am still unsure if this actually does anything for “soothing” but it didn’t stink and it was inexpensive.

I am please with this product. My son finds the scent pleasant also. However, I was disappointed that it was missing one of the chamomiles that is listed in the ingredient list. Having said that, it is an oil that is put in his diffuser on a regular basis.

My son has ADHD. He gets antsy and frustrated if he has to work for longer than 30 minutes on his homework. This oil blend works! It smells very nice, but not like perfume. I just put two drops on my palm, then rub onto the back of his neck. Within a minute, he is calm, no longer frustrated and focused. I find it works to calm me as well, which is great during geometry and algebra lessons.
