Perfect for beginner / intermediate Ashtanga yoga
By way of background: I was looking for a “slightly slippery” mat for Ashtanga yoga (not one that moves around, just one where you can do your vinyasa flows without snagging.) My instructor, who has been teaching Ashtanga for more than ten years, explained that you do want slightly slippery mat as you get better in your practice, because this means you are working your core muscles to hold you up. A lot of mats out there are like “glue” (e.g. Manduka) – which is great for beginners who might otherwise fall over even in the beginning poses – but once you get better, you should really be using your foot and leg and core muscles to hold you up. The really advanced students use the “mysore rugs” which are much more slippery than any mat. Obviously, the stickiness of a mat might change depending on how much you sweat. I do sweat, but not enough to make a mat super slippery. Personally, I think my instructor is right, I tested out a number of different mats that she had as well as my other friends – everything from the really thick Maduka Pro mat (which is like Spider Man glue – you can barely do a vinyasa on that) to Barefoot Yoga Eco mat (which my instructor likes) to the crappy rubbers ones in studios. If you do Bikram / hot yoga, you probably want a towel on top anyway, so the mat might be a secondary consideration (whether or not hot yoga is good for you is another one.)By way of description: the mat has a different texture on the top and bottom. The top is a mix of bumpy eco rubbery material with jute mixed in, and the down is side is smooth sticky rubbery material that keeps the mat fixed on the floor as a whole. The top jute side has “texture” and might be rough for sensitive hands. If you are sensitive, go buy a smooth Barefoot Yoga Eco mat. Personally I like the feel, but you may not. What I like about this one:1) It’s ecological and non-toxic. Does not smell – if anything the packaging smell is pleasant.2) At 5mm the cushion is good.3) It’s slightly slippery so that you can go through your Ashtanga vinyasas without snagging and breaking your toes.4) It stays put. The mat itself does not move around.5) The colors are gorgeous, jute does not shed.6) It folds nicely and fits into a standard cotton yoga mat bag easily.

    Great mat for serious yogis
love this mat! while it might be too rough for some people, the “rug-like” feel of the main side provides stability and makes me personally feel more serious about my practice (which is daily, advanced Vinyasa). if i need a break from the rough side, the other side is softer than most mats i’ve tried and has a wonderful suppleness that leaves imprints from my hands and feet – something i personally love, like tracing my footsteps or evidence of my presence. the matte “bubble” pattern is also nice and grippy. perfect width for me, too, at 5mm – cushiony with good grounded support for balance poses that don’t strain my ankles or feet. 5 stars for now – we’ll see how it’s looking on durability after a few more months of use 🙂

    I wanted to love this
Slippery as heck… Made it totally unusable for me as I sweat like crazy during my practice (I’m at an intermediate level in my practice). I wanted to love it the color was very pretty but it was horrible for balance because of the sponginess and too slippery for warrior poses and down dog. If your practice is mat only without down dog and u like extra cushion it might be ok… Sadly disappointed and had to return it.

    Beautiful colour and texture
As always I was looking for a yoga mat that grips my hands and feet but still provides a comfortable surface for moving around on. I do love this mat with the jute top layer, it’s sort of melted into the yoga mat. I saw another in a class and went looking for it specifically. The mat was very slippery for the first 10-12 uses I would say, but I was determined to stick with it as the jute feels so nice to work on. It has now increased in grip quite a bit, much less slippery now, and I use this mat as my everyday mat. I guess it’s still not the ‘perfect’ mat for me, but it’s pretty close and I love the earthy and natural look and feel of the jute engrained in the mat. I bought the purple and the colour is as expected, very pleasing, vibrant but still subtle and warm.

Very good quality, zero toxic fumes and comfortable
This looks exactly as pictured. Nice color and good quality. My son uses this for yoga and I was concerned about the fumes that I’ve smelled from other yoga mats. This is perfect. It’s nice because it has a more textured side for grip, as well. Having the versatility of the mat is a bonus. It also looks nice and is very comfy. There is no scent whatsoever from this mat, as expected. It’s a great price and worth the few extra bucks so my son isn’t breathing in or laying on nasty chemicals.

    Still slipping
I was hoping the rough texture would help with slipping but it really doesn’t. I don’t like that it catches and bunches when I change poses. It is a beautiful mat and seems high quality, I just don’t think it’s a great Vinyasa or Buti Yoga mat.

My experience with Maji yoga mats has been great. I had to replace my last yoga mat …
My experience with Maji yoga mats has been great. I had to replace my last yoga mat because of a cat. I chose this same brand because of how satisfied I was with my last one. This time I chose the longer version for some extra room. The mat stays well put on my hardwood floors and it has great grip on the top of the mat to prevent slipping around. 100% recommend.

… are hard to stow away and this mat is beautiful. Neutral and nice
I was looking for a yoga mat that was attractive enough to have out in the house since they are hard to stow away and this mat is beautiful. Neutral and nice. And I kind of like the texture for gripping my hands and feet. It’s definitely more plastic-y than jute but that’s okay with me as I think jute would shed and be too scratchy.

Calidad y color excelentes. Llega en tiempo y me ha servido mucho. Nada ecofriendly, que era por lo que quería comprar esta marca tras una reseña. La parte de yute es mínima y sigue siendo mayor la composición de foamy no degradable.

If you enjoy your hands and feet slipping around while doing literally anything on the mat other than standing, then you should definitely buy this mat! 2 stars instead of 1 because it’s pretty and doesn’t smell gross.

I bought this yoga may over a year ago now and use it 4 times a week. I love it – it allows grip/no slipping and is the perfect thickness. It was a little overpriced (I got it at a sale price and would not have bought it at full price) but I’m happy I bought it.

The colour and texture is great but the mat is very slippery. The patterned side with orange tones is really lovely and I bought it to use that side but that side is just too slippery. And I have tried it with a few different types of yoga. Downdog is just not possible with this mat without some slipping. Funnily, the underside side of it with just the one-toned orange and dots is not slippery. I actually bought this to use at the studio that I teach at but now just use it at home with the “not so pretty” side. Regret buying it and will not recommend it, unfortunately.

Muy bonito, tal cual se ve, llegó el día exacto que me vinieron avisando que llegaría excelente servicio. Así dan ganas de seguir comprando.
