    A great mat
I’ve been using this mat for nearly a month now (yoga 2-4 times/week) and it’s held up very well. It’s a little longer then other mats, I’m 6’2″ and find the length just about right (it is slightly narrower then other mats I’ve used). It is a little scratchy on legs and arms, however I didn’t find it bothersome; it’s definitely not an artificial cheep “soft” plastic mat.I’ve never slipped once, always have grip, even when hands/feet/mat is moist. The backing is perfect for slippery wood floors, I don’t have issues with it bunching up either. There is no chemical smell (though it does have a slight odor when first unboxed), however I would like to know more about this “PER” material, can’t seem to find much reference to its composition/manufacturing anywhere. When rolled up it seems a little larger then other mats, probably due to its slightly longer length, but it’s surprisingly light. The mat is a standard thickness, however, I find some kneeling poses slightly uncomfortable; sitting poses are fine. If you have “boney” knees/elbows, you’ll either have to toughen up or use some extra padding (I don’t find it distracting).Over all I’d recommend this mat and look forward to enjoying it for many years.

    Great mat!
This is a wonderful mat. No funky rubbery smell because its a mixture of natural fibers and PER, which also makes it super easy to keep my grip; now my hands rarely slip no matter how much I sweat (unlike with my previous mat, a junky Gaiam one). I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 because bits of the material are starting to come off with wear, but I’ve had it for about a year ago and use it pretty frequently (3-4 times a week) so I guess that’s to be expected!

    Great mat
This mat helps tremendously with sweaty hands and feet. The jute fibers absorb sweat, and have a coarse texture that helps me grip the mat. The coarseness felt slightly abrasive at first, but after a couple of hours I stopped noticing it; now I just notice the superior grip. The mat is still largely composed of rubber, so with the exception of the absorption and texture of the jute, it behaves like a typical sticky mat. If you prefer a blanket or an extra-thick mat, this might not be for you, but if you’re looking for a sweat-friendly version of the basic sticky mat, it’s perfect.

    Pretty
Very slippery, and still after over 3 months of use, I’m sliding all over the surface. Pretty disappointing

No chemical smell of some other yoga mats.
The Hugger Mugger was my second yoga mat. I’m not sure the composition of my first, cheaper mat (NOT a Hugger Mugger), but it had a chemical smell. This would be especially bothersome in poses where my face was near the mat, such as Child’s Pose. The smell also seemed to get on my clothes during a session. This smell could be somewhat nauseating, especially in folded poses that squeeze the stomach. The Hugger Mugger mat is stated to be made from jute, a natural fiber, and PER, which apparently does not have the smell of the chemicals used in some other mats. The Hugger Mugger has a faint, pleasantly grassy smell, and does not leave an unpleasant smell on my clothes. The mat also is “sticky” for holding stretched poses. The only downside is the mat is a bit thinner than the previous mat I was using. I might consider using the Hugger Mugger mat on top of my first mat, though I don’t want the smell of the first mat to get onto the Hugger Mugger mat. One could also use a towel for extra padding in poses where one needs it.I’ve been using the mat 6 months now. It is holding up well and still has no smell. When I do a yoga class with the mat over wood floors, I might add a towel under my knees or elbows.

Exactly what I was looking for!
I have been using the Hugger Mugger Sattva Jute mat for about a month and have found it to be exactly what I was looking for at this point in my practice. I have been doing yoga regularly at home with DVDs (3-5 x/wk) and class weekly for the past three months. I have noticed and enjoy the additional sense of stability I find in my poses with the texture of the jute in this mat– without additional stickiness that I don’t need. The length and width of the mat are fine for me (I’m 5’4″). In class, I use it placed over one of the mats provided. At home I use it over carpet. I think this will be a great mat to practice on outdoors once the weather improves. I searched a long time for an affordable mat that was not a PVC wasteland and would benefit my developing yoga practice. Found it!

Wanted to like this mat but….
I got this mat as a birthday present over a year ago to replace a beloved mat that had been used regularly for many years. I was really excited to have a more natural mat but this one is just not sticky enough! I slip all over the place in different poses. In down dog my hands slide, in some standing poses my feet slide. Sometimes when transitioning between poses the mat slips on the floor and I am a pretty smooth mover. Now searching for a new mat again. Ho hum. Maybe the particular mat I got was defective as others claim it has good grip? My yoga teacher even tried it out after seeing me side around when I never had before and he said its definitely the mat.

Sticky, weird color, Where’s the Jute?
Bought these to use as rugs next to the bed to prevent dogs from sliding on the wood floors while jumping up and down. That said, they’ve got to perform as good, or better than during a daily yoga ritual. Firstly, not sure where the jute is in here…Check some of the very specific Q and A’s for product ingredients. I did, but still not clear. What I do know is this:Performance: no slipping. Great.Width: ThinColor: Yellowish wheat and again, where’s the jute?Shedding: Huh? Some reviewers mentioned theirs did…What I’m looking at looks like a rubber yoga mat. Nothing comes off.Sticky: Yes. Both sides and not working great as a rug since hair sticks to it too. Yuck. For me: wasn’t willing to pay $30.00 a mat more to upgrade (in this Jute/Bamboo category) . Sorry I didn’t now. I’m settling.

Nice feeling but not good once you start sweating. Doesnt seem to be breaking in. It feels like a regular pvc mat except the pvc is bumpy. They basically just put a jute grid into the liquid pvc so some of it pokes through the grid and some doesnt. And it’s not as thin as you’d think. Not a deal breaker but i definetly thought it was much thinner and rolled up much smaller. It end up being the same size rolled up as any standard mat. Also, its a bit small in lenght for my size (I’m 5’9). I wouldnt totally disuade you from buying it but i would recommend it either, especially for ashtanga. Better for yin yoga. Way overpriced in my opinion.

es un buen tapete, buenas medidas standart, queda comprobar la resistencia del material, pero me gusta que sea amigable con el medio ambiente. Contenta con la compra

  11. Zeebrah

looks natural on photo, but it is very synthetic

This mat was not as described. The write up stated great for hot yoga. I do hot yoga quite often. Terrible grip. It’s already falling apart. Will never buy again.

I was hoping to feel and see more jute than PER but definitely is not the case, this mat is Pet with a thin layer of a thin jute. Is not really a big difference from the regular per or pet ones .
