The key to enjoying and benefiting from hot yoga
Gabrielle’s book is, I think, essential for anyone practicing hot yoga. I am glad to see it now available in paperback at a price that is really accessible. She is a wonderful teacher, and her enthusiasm and depth of understanding for the practice of hot yoga shines through on every page.I have been practicing hot yoga for over two years, in a variety of studios with different – mostly very capable — instructors. Hot Yoga MasterClass gave me a different perspective on how to approach the postures, and very detailed – beautifully illustrated – photos of the postures step by step, including specific guidance on the most common errors and how to avoid or correct them. (And I have committed most of these errors.) The book provides clear, concise guidance that goes far beyond what most instructors can give in a crowded studio, where individual corrections or suggestions are not feasible. Thanks to Gabrielle’s guidance, I have been able to move deeper into poses that I thought I could never get, avoid injury, and in fact eliminate some chronic soreness that I was getting from several postures.Hot Yoga MasterClass will pay for itself almost immediately in terms of greater understanding, improved practice, and increased peace of mind. Namaste.

Improving your practice
I started practicing going to classes at a time of great personal stress. At the time, I was a group fitness instructor and this was the only class i attended that I wasn’t teaching and could just sit back and follow directions. The studios where i went to class was almost always full, with no real time for the instructor to break down the postures. While you can indeed watch the more experienced yogis and get a good idea of what the poses are supposed to look like, it doesn’t help you to figure out how to adjust the posture so that YOU get the most benefit from it.Every body is different and we all have different ranges of motion, etc. This book is the first one that I’ve read that helped to break down the postures in a way that A) made sense, and B) discussed common errors WITH fixes for them. The format of the book is excellent, with many photos of the poses well executed, but also photos of the most common mistakes. This helps those who are more visual learners to self assess and correct. My biggest critique is that I couldn’t find it in an ebook format and the book itself is the size of a text book, not easy to carry around with you and read on the T.Recommended for anyone who practices Bikram yoga and wants to deepen their understanding and execution of the postures. You do need some understanding of anatomy to get the most from this.

Advance your practice outside the torture chamber
I’ve been a hot yoga devotee for over a year now. And I’ve got to say the first 3 months were the hardest. Like so many others starting out, I was frustrated with classes and didn’t feel like I was getting any “better”. I was about to throw in the towel when a friend of mine told me about the HotYogaDoctor.I bought the iPad app and my practice started progressing quickly afterwards. 6 months later I bought Gabrielle’s full master class pack and made further advances. So much so that my studio is encouraging me to compete next year! The other day a new instructor at the studio told me my practice was “impeccable”. I can’t believe that fellow yogis are saying these things to ME (considering where I started from!) I know that I have to give Gabrielle and MasterClass the credit because even though I have excellent instructors at my studio, being able to read about the poses and corrections outside of the “torture chamber” really helped me to progress rapidly and continue to enjoy this sensational style of yoga. I really feel like I’m getting the most out of every class because of the extensive amount of research that Gabrielle has done.I’m currently saving for teacher training thanks to the continued breakthroughs in my practice. When I finally get there I’ll have a smaller edition of Masterclass that I can refer to with extra info that I know will take my practice to the next level. Thanks Gabrielle!

Very good.
The book is useful but the author gives almost too much info to the point where you can easily lost interest. It was supose to be written in plain English but it is not, it has a lot of anatomic terms that tire your brain out. For example if you turn the humerun anterior then the acromion etc… I do have basic anatomic traning and it’s annoying so image someone that doesn’t. Another reason I took 1 star off is the author keep repeating that she is a dentist over and over. We get it! After you said it 3 times don’t ou think it’s enough , you’re a dentist cool. Tell us about yoga that’s why we bought the book. However the book is a great Guide so I can not rate it any lower than 4 stars that are due.

A great study guide.
Really great Bikram yoga book. She gives you lots of adjustments and troubleshooting tips for each pose. If you’re a Bikram yoga addict, it’s a good book to paw through for information on each pose.

A master right beside you during your practice.
This book is really invaluable for the experienced Hot Yogi or for a beginner. There are so many times in a Yoga class that you think you are doing everything properly, but at the end of the day, you aren’t. The thing I really love about this book, is that fact that Gabrielle understands that all bodies are different and that we need to make modifications to elevate our practice. I’ve had the hard copy of the Master Class for years and while I LOVE it, I really wanted something that I could travel with. Viola! The Hot Yoga Master Class Kindle version. Buy with Confidence.

This is the one variant of yoga that I have stayed with and Gabriella’s book is the main reason for that. Look, I am male, 6’5″ and 68 years old and I am never going to be able to touch my toes with straight legs. That is not me being fatalistic, I have a 34″ inside leg which is way too far for my long trunk and relatively short arms. What Gab’s book does is the concentration on the individual stretches and compressions that are part of the set up for any final pose and so far as I can take these within the limits of my body shape they constitute a thorough work out for the whole body. And for me personally the sort of yoga class where a ballerina goes straight into Dandayamana-Dhanurasana ( standing bow ) and the instructor goes all gooey for the next 10 minutes is not for me. In a Bikram class , it’s time to move on to the next pose where I can go as far as I can.In Gabbie’s book, each pose is dissected and the point made that the setup is as important as the pose. Each phase of the setup itself is further analysed — I cannot fault the detail. In another universe a version of this book might exist illustrated with images of old crocks like me but those of a fragile temperament might not take to it. Their loss.
