    Really comfortable and helpful
This purchase was a nice surprise. I can try to pinpoint precise spots with easy adjusting while on the floor and it isn’t too painful.

Worked well for my body size/weight
I have tons of daily pain in my shoulder blades and back of skull. I’ve tried a number of different products like this one, including another variation from this brand, and unfortunately most of them haven’t worked for me. I had surprisingly good results with THIS model.I think a lot of this may be dependent on your body size, because the little nubs and pokey bits have to line up with the right parts of your body in order to work. I’m a small person (5’1″), and this was “just right” for me, so maybe it wouldn’t work as well on a bigger person, IDK. Another variable is that the nubs/pokey bits can be too low or too high, depending on how heavy you are. Again, these were perfect for my body weight — not enough to flatten them, but enough that I had good pressure.Anyway. The device applies trigger-point-type pressure to multiple points on your upper back, shoulders, neck, and base of skull. I had especially good pressure on my skull base — the parts responsible for tension headaches. The shoulder blade pressure was pretty good, too. I could move around slightly to get better points.I used this on a rug on my floor. It’s comfortable to lie on. The foam “gives” enough that it doesn’t hurt. It seems like a well-made product, although the price ($60) is a bit prohibitive.

The relief I was looking for
I’m not saying this will work for everyone, but for me, this is one of my new favorite things. I have old spine injuries as well as some disc issues in my neck, so pain and stiffness in my neck and shoulders especially is a frequent thing. I get tingling and terrible headaches as well. I’m always looking out for anything that might help. I get a good amount of relief from yoga (neck hygiene but also just hanging over and letting my cervical spine stretch out), heat packs, and resting my head (as my doctor reminds me, it’s a bowling ball resting on your neck, sometimes the only thing you can do it lay it down). DO follow the instructions and start with short increments (less than 15 minutes) and work your way up.I was missing the traction therapy from PT, and this is a close second to it! It did take some time the first few uses to line up the right pressure points. The pictures and instructions are quite helpful. Once I found the right spot, it was easy the next time to line it up again. It feels amazing, just the right amount of pressure and in the right spots. For some extra massage, I rotate my shoulders (as recommended) and sometimes move my neck around too. Obviously if anything hurts, stop. For me though, this is offering welcome relief.

Softer and easier to use than the hard plastic devices.
Would I recommend it or get it again and why: Yes. There are so few devices for the upper back, thoracic, shoulder and neck area that aren’t hard rigid plastic. This device is a softer but very firm semi-hard material that has some give to it. It’s a lot more comfortable to use than the harder plastic devices, especially if you’re smaller or very tender to the touch. It helps with muscle knots and muscle tension.Pros:-Very well made and well designed. This is a unique design I’ve not seen in other devices, both shape and material wise.-There are neck devices, but few of them are made to extend into the shoulder and upper back upper thoracic spine area. When you have problems in the upper thoracic, scapula area there aren’t a lot of good options available.-Not hard rigid plastic that has no give. Many devices (most of them made for the neck vs upper spine and upper back) are hard rigid plastic that can be very painful to use. Personally, I can’t lay on most of them. It’s just too intensely painful. If you’re more tender or a smaller person, this is going to be a lot more tolerable. If you’ve given up on acupressure devices or other devices for this area due to it being too painful, this is a lot less painful than hard rigid plastic. It likely will still hurt if you’re tender though.-This is made of a softer material that’s a bit rubberized but also a bit foam. It’s hard to describe but if you squeeze or pinch it, it has some give. It is not too soft to be useful, but more usable for smaller people or those who are more tender to the touch.-The arched area is for the neck and base of the head and it extends down the sloped area to the upper spine and thoracic area.-It comes with instructions for use.Cons:-I would have appreciated it being a bit longer. I’m short at 5’1 and would have loved it longer by about another 6 inches or more to cover the area from the top of the neck to the base of the lower part of the scapula (my problem area zones).Thoughts & Tips:-You can use this on a bed or couch vs the floor. It’s more intense on hard surface or floor. You could also use it on a chair behind you sitting up as well.-I liked it on my lower back with the part made for the neck under my lower back.-I found the upper neck area a little too intense for my neck. It wasn’t a fault of the device, but that I’m super tender there. I had to put the edge of a pillow (placed above the device, I pulled down an edge) slightly over the top 2 rows to soften them. I couldn’t lay as long without softening it a bit with a pillow in that area. When I’m less tender it won’t be an issue.-Traction and acupressure (I’d say this is mild traction by the neck positioning.) aren’t for everyone and can be painful. This is one of the more comfortable and safer devices I’ve tried being that it’s softer and not a hard plastic. It still may be painful and you may only be able to use it briefly. Don’t over do it or make your pain worse by pushing yourself.-I have severe muscle knots in my upper thoracic, shoulder to scapula area. While I would have liked this longer to cover more area, it did a good job of covering a lot of painful areas. For the upper thoracic spine, this is the best device so far I’ve tried and the most comfortable. I am so tender I can only use it briefly, but you can feel it’s trying to release the muscle knots.-A hot shower or heat pad before use might help to loosen the muscles and knots a bit to make therapy more beneficial.-Remember that this is not a pillow or to sleep on, but a therapy device.

Not for me or my husband.
We both tried it. Read the instructions, and figured the right placements. its just not for either of us. Super uncomfortable.

  6. Evan

Too soft to provide pain relief for my inflammatory arthritis.
This kanjo arthritis pain relief cushion is made of a firm turquoise-colored foam with some give to it. It feels durable and has a bit of weight to it, and it is flexible enough to be bent or squished without being damaged. It’s a decent size, and accurate to the product photos.Unfortunately, I did not find this pillow to be a good fit for me. The acupressure points felt like they just got squished down when I laid on them, rather than actually applying much pressure to my back. The neck traction is nice, but I feel that a traditional neck traction pillow works better for that purpose. The construction of this kanjo acupressure pillow seems to be of good quality, and it’s somewhat comfortable to lay on. Unfortunately, I feel like it doesn’t actually do a good job of providing pain relief through acupressure, which is a big downside considering the $60 price point.
